FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This is my first appointment,

what should I expect?

It varies. After scheduling your appointment, you'll be sent a link to your own personal site where you can review, complete and sign health history forms, along with any others your provider deem necessary. After arriving to your appointment, your temperature will be checked, and you may be required to wear a mask (due to current Covid guidelines). Usually a 5-10 minute intake is performed prior to your treatment, concerns are discussed and treatment commences to treat issues of concern. If you're coming in for an orthopedic or sports massage, please bring shorts and a sports bra (for the ladies). These types of appointments require more movement on your part to help get the most out of your treatment.

Please note that we can provide important treatment whether you decide to remove any, some, or all of your clothing. We are trained in proper draping procedures and completely respect your privacy at all times during treatment. If it at any time you feel uncomfortable with pressure, draping procedures, etc. please let your therapist know immediately. After the massage, we will conduct an evaluation to create a treatment plan tailored to your future needs.

If this is your first appointment with your nutritionist, shortly before your start time you'll be sent a link to log into your waiting room. The nutrition appointments are virtual only.

Does massage hurt?

Sometimes massage therapy can cause light to moderate discomfort as soft tissue is manipulated and scar tissue or adhesions are released. Some people experience mild to moderate post-onset soreness for 1-2 days as a result of this manual manipulation. It often feels like you exercised that area such as in weightlifting. If you feel any unusual discomfort during your treatment (i.e. sharp nerve pain, uncomfortable pressure dizziness, or nausea) notify your therapist so that technique and pressure are modified to meet your needs. You have the option to stop or change treatment at any time. If your therapist feels it's in your best interest to decrease your massage time, or end it early, he or she may do so.

How can massage help me?

Massage therapy can be beneficial to people of all ages and conditions and is widely used to address many specific problems, including:

Headaches and migraines

Muscle spasms, strains and ligament sprains

Chronic or acute muscular dysfunction

Myofascial pain syndrome

Circulatory and respiratory issues

Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis

Stress related conditions

Pregnancy and labor discomfort

Post-injury and Post-surgical rehabilitation

Neuromuscular pain

Who can receive massage therapy?

Massage is appropriate for individuals of all ages including infants, children and the elderly. However, massage is contraindicated for certain conditions, and may require medical clearance from your doctor necessary before massage can be performed. Even then it is at the discretion of your therapist whether or not to treat you as your safety is their #1 concern. Some massage therapists focus on specific populations such as pregnancy massage, infant massage or on specific conditions such as fibromyalgia. We currently focus on pain relief and management, scar tissue management, and stress reduction.

What massage is the best for me?

That depends. If you’re looking for more relaxation based massage we recommend our sleep recovery massage. If you’re seeking to address a specific concern like ‘frozen shoulder,’ hip issues, etc. we recommend scheduling an orthopedic massage. If you have an upcoming event or have recently finished a sporting event, a pre- or post-event sports massage is ideal as it can decrease your recovery time and allow you to be fresh sooner for your next event. It also is great for reducing the likelihood of injuries. If you prefer a more subtle approach to bodywork, we suggest scheduling a Craniosacral Therapy session as these are lighter touch therapies but can be as equally effective as deeper bodywork.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

We have a strict 24 hour cancellation policy and a strict disclosure policy where only therapeutic massage is performed.

They can be found below under "Policies & Disclaimer."

Do you take tips?

We leave this at your discretion as we do not expect or require it. However, if you would like to leave a tip, we are delighted because we donate our tips to the charity of our choice at the end of the year. If you have a favorite charity that you would like us to donate to, let us know.
